Prosperity Bank Plaza: A Vibrant Outdoor Space at LCU
Lubbock Christian University (LCU) dedicated Prosperity Bank Plaza in October 2024, unveiling a dynamic outdoor space designed to enhance student life and foster meaningful connection. Generously established by donors and Prosperity Bank, the plaza has quickly become a favorite gathering place, offering students opportunities for recreation, community, and renewal throughout the school year.
The vision for Prosperity Bank Plaza was brought to life through the efforts of LCU’s Student Development Board (SDB)—a group of 8 to 10 students who are guided by a university mentor to identify a project they're passionate about and then present that proposal to local business leaders to secure funding. The plaza was one such project. Tanner Higgins (‘24), an SDB student, played a pivotal role in sharing the vision with Prosperity Bank and securing their support.

“The beauty of this project is that it originated with students who dreamed big and followed through,” said Bill Bundy (‘78), President of the LCU Foundation. “Watching Tanner present this to Prosperity Bank—and hearing Mike Marshall, West Texas Area President for Prosperity Bank, say at the dedication that Tanner twisted his arm to make it happen—was a pretty fun moment. It’s a great example of students taking initiative and moving something forward that will benefit generations of LCU students.”
Located on one side of the plaza is the Les and Elaine Perrin Pavilion, a covered, open-air structure given by the Perrin family—Doug (‘74), Tim (‘84), and Mark (‘95)—in honor and memory of their parents, Les and Elaine Perrin. As beloved early faculty members, the Perrins played a foundational role in establishing LCU. Today, the pavilion stands as a tribute to their legacy and serves as a versatile space for devotionals, student organization meetings, social events, and informal gatherings—enhancing the vibrant, Christ-centered community that defines life at LCU.

The plaza’s recreational features include two pickleball courts—Abby’s Court and Maddie’s Court—named in honor of Dan Williams’ (‘05) daughters and made possible by his family’s generosity. These courts offer students a fun and energetic way to stay active and connect with friends. In addition, a sand volleyball court, provided by the Cardwell family, adds another favorite outdoor activity to the space.
Surrounding these amenities are open grassy areas, perfect for studying under the sun, enjoying spontaneous games, or simply finding a quiet moment of rest. Whether students are seeking fellowship, movement, or peace, Prosperity Bank Plaza encourages wellness and belonging in every form—physical, social, and spiritual.
More than just a recreational area, Prosperity Bank Plaza stands as a symbol of collaboration and vision. It reflects the commitment of LCU students, the generosity of its donors, and the shared belief that environments matter in shaping lives and fostering faith-filled community.
