Celebrating God’s Grace, Giving Him All the Praise

As we begin a new academic year at Lubbock Christian University, my heart is drawn to the words of David’s song from 1 Chronicles 16:8, which reminds us to give God all the praise. Everything we celebrate at LCU begins with gratitude to Him.
This fall has been marked by a milestone moment in our history. On move-in day, we welcomed the largest freshman class ever to our campus, and for the second consecutive year, we have a record number in our residence halls. Move-in day represents more than statistics; it reflects promise and potential. For many students, that day is the beginning of a journey that will shape not only their future careers but also the very course of their lives.
In this issue of Reflections, you will see how that journey takes shape through new academic opportunities, such as the launch of our third doctoral program, and through the Global Campus, where students are experiencing the world in ways that broaden both hearts and minds. As Mark Twain once wrote, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” We see this truth in action as our students engage in global learning. They are also stepping into internships that connect classroom preparation with professional calling, and our faculty continue to model lives of service as they pursue research and projects that make a difference for families and communities. You will also read of alumni who are carrying LCU’s mission into the world, living lives of purpose and service in remarkable ways.
We also look with hope toward another successful season of LCU athletics. At the State of the University address, I shared a clip from last year’s Lady Chaps basketball team. After a heartbreaking Elite 8 loss, two of our senior players were asked to reflect on their time at LCU. Their words were not about the disappointment of defeat but about the faith-centered relationships they had built here. They expressed confidence that those relationships would guide and transform their futures. That is the essence of what we pray for every student who walks this campus.
LCU continues to thrive, not because of numbers or achievements alone, but because of the grace of God and the faithfulness of His people. May this season be one in which we remain rooted in His mission and eager to give Him all the praise.
With gratitude,

Scott McDowell, Ed.D.
